Unconditional Love: A Lesson Taught by our Pets

By Mariah Justus, 10th Grade
(In Photo: Tucker Justus age 4, adopted from Town Lake Animal Center in Austin Texas in 2004)
How can one family live with two dogs, six cats, and a fish? It’s not easy and it can be a lot of work, but apparently it’s possible. Ever since I can remember, we’ve had more than one animal in our household because my family (which consists of my mom and dad, my little brother and myself) believes animals help us be better people.
Before I was born in 1993 in …

Clicker Training

The clicker is widely regarded as the greatest breakthrough in modern animal training. Clicker training evolved from the training of marine animals. Since marine animals are usually at a distance (and in the water!), trainers found it difficult to instantly reward them for correct responses. Henrietta’s Deepest Thoughts (Scary!)

Henrietta’s Deepest Thoughts
I’m not one to brag, boast or blow my own horn (but I have occasionally been known to understate my dress size, wine consumption and negative feelings for Hollywood hypocrites) but I must tell you that my fan mail bag is bursting at the seams. Well…perhaps not bursting but there are definitely Henrietta-istas in our midst!
Most folks want to know more about moi. I have apparently raised the curiosities of many and not wanting these lovers of all things dog to revel in uncertainty, I have opted to …

Pet Travel Tips & Precautions

Will you be traveling with your pet this year?

According to a survey of pet owners by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), more than 53% of dogs and cats will travel with their owners this holiday season.

Did you know that of the 4 major travel choices that Americans have, pets are not allowed to travel on half of them. It turns out that pets are prohibited from traveling by bus or train in most states.

Actually….I prohibit myself from traveling by bus or train in most states.

Anyway….it looks like …
