This just might be worth a drive up north. A couple in Dallas has opened the first indoor dog park in the U.S. Launched through the efforts of dog lovers Kelly and Cody Acree of Dallas, Unleashed Indoor Dog Parks™ is the nation’s first indoor and outdoor off-leash play park offering year-round play for dogs and their owners. The $10 million 50,000 square-foot facility is situated on 6.5 wooded acres just four miles from downtown Dallas. You can check them out on Twitter, too. The coolest part is the indoor grass, which is the largest indoor installation of K9Grass in an indoor park. The turf is the only artificial grass designed specifically for dogs with antimicrobial properties and a unique knitted construction to allow draining. This keeps the grass clean and free of bacteria or odors. If you want to go, you just have to present proof of rabies, DHLP, Parvo and Bordetella vaccinations for their dogs. It costs $7.50 to enter. “We run Unleashed like an exclusive gym, so that when your dog comes through the gate with her personalized RFID membership tag, she’s going to have access to the best equipment, staff and experience available," said Kelly Acree. Dogs are divided by size and temperament, so you can choose the Powderpuff Park for little ones (that's we're I'll be!) or Bodyslammers Park for the big ones.

I wish we had one here in Tampa. I would join in a heartbeat. IT’s so hot and humid none of us want to go out. Are they going to franchise this idea?

This park is awesome. We love it there. Can’t wait till they can build one in Houston. It’s clean and not like the typical outdoor dog parks we have here. Staff will clean up poop right away. Staff is also watching for aggressive behavior to break up fights should they happen. It’s very annoying in our parks here where other dogs get aggressive with my lab and owners don’t do enough to stop it. It’s also nice and cool and away from our Texas sun. It’s worth the price!

Judging from the success of the park, a lot of people have this information on their dogs. I would not want my dog playing with other dogs that are not vaccinated. It’s better for all involved, and gives everyone peace of mind. If you don’t have this info, ask your vet for your dogss vaccination records. If your dog is not vaccinated, do it… It is in dog’s best interest, and yours as well!

This place sounds incredible. I’m not in the Dallas area but if I were I would definitely check this place out. What was the reason for creating indoor facilities in Dallas? Being from Phoenix Arizona, pretty much everything we have is outdoors and come summertime, an air conditioned in door structure would be a wonderful alternative saving our pets from the heat.

Being that me and my kid enjoy agility sports, agility training equipment would be a terrific addition. I am working with a pet lover to get my own personal agility equipment. However, having it available in a set up like this would be a better option. The lady I’m going through is amazing and has a business called http://www.travelhoundsusa.com/. I will be passing this post onto her. She will love it!

If this facility proves to be successful in Dallas, is there any chance for facilities like this opening up in other locations…specifically other states?

We typically take our lab on roadtrips and we always carry proof of vaccinations. You never know what may happen. Plus if you want to leave your dog at daycare centers, they require all of this information. We are not from Dallas, but let our baby play there every time we visit.

I agree completely with providing proof of vaccination. I am happy to do that. What a great place, I wish there was one in Houston. I also like the idea that staff watches for aggressive behavior. Some people at outdoor dog parks do *not* monitor their dog’s behavior at all, and many do not pick up the feces. How nice to go somewhere safe, monitored, and clean. I’m happy to pay for good service and nice facilities. PLEASE COME TO HOUSTON SOON!

I LOVE this! Poor me in Phoenix, AZ doing a google search for indoor dog parks….I hope this idea really grows! I miss playing at the dog park with my dog SO much, but it’s just not safe taking him when it’s 110 outside.
