1- Newberry Campa CMYKBarkitecture Houston at Houston Pavilions was a huge success, raising approximately $10,000 for Pup Squad! Houston’s best architects, designers, builders and artists generously donated doghouses that were auctioned off to benefit Pup Squad, an animal rescue group whose goal is to rescue orphaned puppies, kittens and nursing litters from the streets and other life-threatening situations and match them with adoptive homes as well as to provide support and education to these adopters and the community at large.

For years, creative people have been using their talents to design and build functional doghouses for their four-legged friends. This phenomenon has been commonly referred to as “Barkitecture.” Houston Pavilions hosted its first Barkitecture Houston in October of 2009 with a weekend of festivities that included a Yappy Hour with McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, a silent auction of designer doghouses and spectacular shopping in a festival atmosphere.

All of the doghouse designers are winners! The Barkitecture Houston Steering Committee and select celebrity judges chose a few special awards – Best in Show, Second Place and Third Place. And, visitors to Houston Pavilions chose People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice.

Best in Show – Newberry Campa Architects
Second Place – Morris Architects
Third Place – Dumptruck Texas
People’s Choice – Morris Architects
Kids’ Choice – Newberry Campa Architects
Honorable Mentions – Hard Hats and Fire Hoses House
and English + Associates

Get ready for next year! Barkitecture Houston 2010 is scheduled for October 22 and 23, 2010. All proceeds will benefit Pup Squad.
