We just received this message from Deborah Hoffman of Corridor Rescue. Please consider fostering a dog so the Corridor Rescue can begin accepting new dogs for the holidays. Read Deborah's message:
Here's a few dogs that we've had in boarding for too long a time and a few others that need into new foster homes. Wouldn't it be nice if they all could be settled in new HOMES for the HOLIDAYS?? What a great PRESENT that would be for me and them and all our volunteers that work so hard to help all the animals WE HELP!!!!! Won't you consider fostering one of these dogs and giving them that extra tender loving care and affection they need to make a better fit as a pet for someone??? If you've never fostered before, that's okay - let's try it out! Think of one of these babies curled up by your fireplace on Christmas Eve - what a delightful vision!! Without you, some of these poor pups have to stay at a boarding facility when what they really need is plenty of TLC in a home environment to get them furthered on their way to a GREAT adoptive home! If you can’t help, please pass this email on to anyone else you think may be able to foster one of these precious souls...co-workers, family or friends. If you can foster or have any questions, please e-mail Deborah Hoffman or call Deborah at 832-265-6523. All dogs are current on vaccinations and flea preventatives and bathed. All medical care has been taken care of (or will be if needed), and fosters are provided with supplies, food and wire crate.Meet Swan Sweet and gorgeous Swan was rescued from a high-kill shelter. She was a bag of bones then and had ZERO hair on her body. Luckily she was able to go to a nice foster home in the country with many other dogs. But it turned out that Swan is dog aggressive at times and now we know she needs to be the only dog in a home. She just completed heartworm treatment and is actually ready for her own home but if that can't be found right now - the 2nd best thing would be a foster home to get her out of boarding....she's been there for too long! Swan is a pitbull/lab mix and weighs 60 lbs and is estimated to be 3-4 years old.
Meet Will Will has come an incredibly long way since his rescue from a high-kill animal control facility a couple months ago. See before and after pics. But being stuck in boarding during his heartworm treatment is not what's best for Will :( Will needs someone to fall in love with him - he needs a foster that will love and care for him deeply. He did test positive for brucellosis - a venereal disease that was causing inflammation/infection of his back near his tail bone and that is why he limped at first. That infection is gone and Will walks normal now and wants to run! Will is now neutered and so he can't pass the disease on to other dogs. Brucellosis is a zoonotic diseasewhich means it can be transmitted to humans. However, that transmission would be via the urine which would require contact with an open wound or mucous membrance (i.e. eye, nose, mouth). The chance of a human catching the disease from a dog is low as the amount of brucella in the urine is low. Immunosuppressed individuals would be at greater risk. Will is 2.5 year old lab mix and weighs 57 lbs. He is VERY sweet and affectionate.
Meet Johnny Johnny was either lost or abandoned at a camp site outside of Houston. Luckily he was rescued along with his friend June and brought to Houston to safety. Johnny tested negative for heartworms and was soon neutered and vaccinated. Unfortunately he has been stuck in boarding for over a month now. He is a staff and volunteer favorite - he is extremely sweet and lovable. He weighs 46 pounds and is a hound/lab mix.
Meet Lil Cesar This lucky little puppy is one of a litter of 6 that made it out of a car lot in the Corridor of Cruelty. Cesar is recovering from a terrible skin infection that caused intense dandruff and itching - both of which have subsided now. His eyes were swollen shut but they are doing much better after medical treatment and care in a temporary foster home. Cesar is almost 6 weeks old and will soon have his first round of shots. He has been dewormed and believe me - he had 'em all! He is feeling much better now thank you..... :) We think he is a border collie mix. He's only about 5 lbs right now.
Meet Sweet Pea This precious one was an owner turn-in from a terrible situation in the Corridor of Cruelty. She has been quite happy in a foster home hanging with a pack of dogs and absolutely LOVES every dog she meets. She is the leader of "playtime"!!! But what she really needs is humans to work with her to bring her out of her shyness with people. Other than that, she is ready for adoption but she definitely needs to bond with humans in general to become a good pet for someone. Does anyone have the time to help get this girl past her human shyness? Sweet Pea is just about 1-1/2 years old and 45 lbs. She truly does love affection when you can catch her and hug her! She needs to learn to come to people and be around them comfortably.
Meet Wiley When rescued Wiley's ribs were showing and he had an old leg injury that healed but was stiff. With physical therapy, he regained complete use of his foot/ankle. However, Wiley's other medical issues did not pan out as well..... he has a heart murmur, pulmonary hypertension, and Stage 2-3 heartworm disease. Due to the nature of his conditions, he will not be heartworm treated. He will remain on several heart and blood pressure meds the rest of his life. Wiley is sweet as can be and very laid back. He's getting along well with other dogs and is feeling FANTASTIC lately and playing. If anyone is interested in offering Wiley a "furever" home to live out his days, or even a FOSTER home, please contact me and let's TALK. Wiley is a bulldog mix weighing in at about 75 lbs now and he is about 3.5 years old. Despite his sad looking face, Wiley is a HAPPY boy!!!
Meet Aengus Aengus was rescued last Friday from the Corridor feeding station route. Very, very sweet big boy!! He's a hefty 66 pounds of boy dog. He's what ya call a "leaner" ....let him get close enough to you and he leans into you and tries to meld his body with yours! Current on vaccinations and neutered, but strong heartworm positive. Will be ready for heartworm treatment in 1 month.
Meet Coco Coco was rescued off the streets of a neighborhood in southwest Houston and was placed in an outdoor foster home by his rescuer. His rescuer has to leave town and Coco needs to start heartworm treatment. He can't do that outside. Coco is now at Abbott's and waiting for a foster home and the start of treatment. SHORT-TERM foster needed. He's a sweet little guy weighing in at only 32 pounds. Probably an Aussie mix. Neutered and current on vaccinations.
Meet Buster I trapped Buster a couple weeks ago to save him from living in someone's from yard...someone that sort of cared but not enough. Poor Buster..... a neighborhood stray that was doomed to death by heartworms. Another rescuer and I are working jointly on Buster and he has already attended one adoption event at Highland Village but it was too stressful for him...afterall, he is chow and needs some space and time to adjust. He's settling in nice though and coming out of his shell a bit at the kennel but a FOSTER HOME would be so much better for him! He can start heartworm treatment in about 2 weeks but needs a foster home first.
