The Houston Dog Park Association is seeking local businesses to offer discounts to our dog loving members. A Membership Card Sponsorship includes a link from our web site to yours on our Sponsor page (our site averages 3000 visitors a month) and the cost is that of a Houston Dog Park Membership, $20 per year.
1. Raise funds from pet friendly activities to support dog park advocacy, the local dog community and dog rescue organizations.
2. Partner with various Parks and Recreation Departments to establish an educated dog friendly community with more dog parks.

This just might be worth a drive up north. A couple in Dallas has opened the first indoor dog park in the U.S.
Launched through the efforts of dog lovers Kelly and Cody Acree of Dallas, Unleashed Indoor Dog Parks™ is the nation’s first indoor and outdoor off-leash play park offering year-round play for dogs and their owners. The $10 million 50,000 square-foot facility is situated on 6.5 wooded acres just four miles from downtown Dallas. You can check them out on Twitter, too.

Looking for some outdoor fun with your pet? Bring your pup on a leash to the Katy Dog Park on Franz Rd. and see if you can “dig up” some eggs! The hunt will take place April 2, 5pm to 7pm with a costume contest at 5:30pm. Egg hunt begins at 6pm and will include treats and prizes.

The McCullough Foundation, of Houston, recognized The Woodlands Dog Park Club this week with a $15,000 donation to be used in the Partnership for Paws Vaccination/Spay & Neuter Clinics that the Club hosts in cooperation with the Montgomery County Animal Shelter and County Commissioners. In 2008 the Partnership for Paws “Love Your Pets” outreach program vaccinated more than 1000 dogs and cats and spayed or neutered 500.
The Partnership for Paws clinics offer free on-site vaccinations to the public’s dogs and cats and are held throughout the year in various communities (representing the four precincts) around Montgomery County.

Recently the Montgomery County Animal Shelter on SH 242 at the north end of The Woodlands began a major upgrade and expansion of its facility. Included in this project is a revamping of the shelter’s Low-cost Spay/Neuter Clinic.
Local non-profit, The Woodlands Dog Park Club, a long time supporter of the shelter’s no-kill initiatives, held a fundraiser to raise money to assist with improvements at the clinic. Hometown Hounds & Cool Cats offered the public a chance to have their pets’ likeness painted on a large dog park mural in the clinic’s new lobby. Nationally renowned, New Orleans artist, Jim Tweedy, painted the animals’ likenesses and noted Conroe artist, Joe Kolb, painted the backdrop.
