Was there reason to suspect an outbreak of canine distemper or was this an excuse to euthanize? This organization is in serious need of help, folks. Band aids won't cut it anymore.

YES! This could happen in Houston just as it happens in many more places than you know. For example, it is happening to <a href="http://freebrindi.blogspot.com/" title="FREE Brindi!" rel="nofollow">Brindi in Nova Scotia</a> and <a href="http://m1e.net/c?105510993-VHMMEcWhbTjgM%404397673-rTNiRJ4/7OubY" title="Bruce in Northern Ireland" rel="nofollow">Bruce in Northern Ireland</a> right now, just to name a couple.

Ohio has enacted a “vicious breed” ban that apparently allows officers to confiscate dogs that look like pit bulls and euthanize them.

And in most cases, the owners are given few options to save their beloved companions other than expensive legal filings procedures which lag on into infinity. A pet's life is finite.

You owe it to yourself to take the time and read the animal control laws/by-laws of your community carefully and imagine how they read if it's your pet that has been impounded. Then you need to marshall to change those that unfairly seize, impound and/or euthanize your pet.

As an update on Stu, if action is not taken quickly, <a href="http://beingstray.com/dogs/stu-could-die-july-23-2009-help-him-live/" rel="nofollow">Stu could die on July 23, 2009</a> for simply defending himself.

It saddens me that a publication like PetTalk, which is focused on animals and pets, would publish an article like this.

The Susan G. Komen organization tests on helpless, defenseless, innocent animals EVERY day in order to find a cure for humans. Torture and kill animals to try and save other animals (us)? Does that sound right?

I guess Houston PetTalk only cares about SOME animals, and not all.

This article should EXPLAIN to people where the donations are going when their cute pictures are uploaded.

<i>"In one recent experiment, mice were injected with cancer cells and forced to grow huge tumors. The "lucky" ones were bombarded with radiation and infected with modified herpes. Others received no treatment at all. Their blood was collected by jabbing needles directly under their eyes, which causes blood vessels to rupture and other deadly complications. The mice were then killed when their tumors grew to a certain size. In other experiments, rats were killed so that their mammary glands and fat could be removed and studied."</i>

Do your readers really want to upload a picture so a mouse can grow a tumor, get poked in the eye with a needle and then die? This reader does not.

I am a former employee who actually cared about the animals and fed them plenty...BUT can tell you that I pretty much was the only one who cared. The others only want to feed, 'A little'=less than half a scoop, just so they wouldn't have a ton of feces to clean. I tried to bring this to the managers attention and nothing was ever done about it. BARC needs to seriously do a FIRE-REHIRE!!! Get rid of all the old people and bring people in who actually care. All the dogs that come in do get weighed at in-take though...they just never get weighed again. Animals there are not taken care of like they should be. And another reason a lot of them look super skinny is because you can tell them the dog has worms...and nothing is done. I hated working at BARC...due to the way they treated me and the dogs. I feel very sorry for the dogs and go up there on occasion and adopt a dog and try and rehome it. Also I don't see the mayor or anyone who works at BARC ever going to stand up and actually are able to make a change...You would have to hit them close to the heart to get them to listen...

This is outright inhumane abuse !!! Can't someone get the ASPCA or HSUS involved ? This CANNOT and SHOULD NOT be tolerated under ANY circumstances and the director should be charged with abuse and neglect.

This event was great! I and my Chihuahua, FiFi, had a great time. The Battle of the Pet Boutiques was very entertaining and everything coordinated by Hotel ZaZa was top notch. It’s great to attend events like this that support the SPCA. I will be there next year, hopefully with more pet friends. Congrats again to Jen and her fabulous Pawty Palace Team. They did a great job and definitely earned the grand prize award.
