The entire community is invited to bring their pets to be blessed!

Bellaire United Methodist Church (BUMC) in the town of Bellaire, Texas, is set to host its fifth annual Blessing of the Animals event. The event will take place on Saturday, March 28th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. At this fun, family and pet-friendly event, the public and people of all faiths are invited to bring their pets and have them blessed by the church’s pastors. Each year, millions of people around the world have their pets blessed during an annual blessing of the animals ceremony. The event is held in celebration of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment, and his love for all animals.

The event is free and will take place on the front lawn of Bellaire United Methodist Church, located at 4417 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401. The service will begin with an opening prayer, homily and a group blessing by the pastor.  Afterward, attendee’s pets can receive an individual blessing from Pastors Jim Flagg, Jim Love and Diane McGehee. Professional photographer Nikky LaWell will provide a free commemorative photo of each pet for attendees to take home, compliments of Nikky LaWell Photography and Rover Oaks Pet Resort.  Attendees are welcome to come and go during the two-hour event, and visit with a number pet care experts including: veterinarians Dr. Garnett Von Eiff and Dr. Mark Silberman of Southwest Animal Clinic, dog trainer Melanie Lynn of Rover Oaks Pet Resort, dog trainer Connie Richards and the Faithful Paws pet therapy group, Carol Rone of Southeastern Guide Dogs, pet nutrition experts from Natural Pawz and Kris Mauer of Mission K9 Rescue, the local chapter of United States War Dogs Association.

Looking to adopt or foster an animal in need?  Several Houston-area pet adoption groups will bring their adorable, loveable canines that are looking for a forever home! Adoption groups include Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas, Houston Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Westie and Scottie Rescue of Houston, Border Collie Rescue of Texas and Texas Great Pyranese Rescue! Representatives will also be on hand to talk about each animal as well as highlight the benefits of adoption and discuss area foster programs.

“God has blessed us with pets of all species, shapes and sizes.  These pets are our constant companions and they provide us with unconditional love,” said Jim Flagg, Senior Pastor at Bellaire United Methodist Church. “We want the community to join us as we celebrate, honor and bless the wonderful pets we hold so dear.”

“This will be our fifth year to hold the event, and every year we see more people from the community come out to join us on this joyous occasion,” said Jim Love, Associate Pastor at Bellaire United Methodist Church. “We’re expecting over 200 people and their pets in attendance this year, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share this special message with such a pet-loving community.”

Please remember that all pets should be friendly and either on a leash (dogs), in protective carriers (cats), cages (birds, small mammals), fish bowls, or terrariums (amphibians, reptiles).
