Houston Dog Show
The 38th Annual Houston World Series of Dog Shows, taking place this week from July 15-19, 2015 at NRG Center, will host a first time exhibition of the surreal sport of creative dog grooming on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 4.p.m. This jaw-dropping display reveals the talents of extreme dog groomers, equipped with colored chalk, hair spray and an overabundance of imagination, as they scissor-cut their dogs’ fur into works of art and weirdness.
In the hands of highly skilled creative dog groomers, white poodles become pandas, ponies, lions, giraffes, pirates of the Caribbean or favorite cartoon or video game characters to the amazement of onlookers. This process does not harm dogs in any way.
Show Chair Tom Pincus explains, “We are always striving to bring new aspects of the dog world to the attention of the public to help them be more appreciative of the joy that dogs bring and to showcase all the different and creative ways people find to become involved with their pets.”
Who’s behind this bizarre phenomenon? Barkleigh, the premiere pet grooming company serving the pet care industry, is bringing this must-see-it-to-believe-it event to the Houston dog show as part of Groom Texas. Groom Texas will also offer professional grooming seminars, which require preregistration and involve additional charges apart from the general admission to the show, on the mezzanine level of NRG Center. Those classes will include a Bichon Demo by Sue Zecco, AKC Poodle Certification, Brusher/Bather by Teri DiMarino, AKC Salon Certification, Every Day Grooming by Judi Cantu and CGA Creative Grooming Certification.
