Free Cat Spay and Neuter Services

Depositphotos_9662320_originalFree S/N Sunday March 9, 2014 – Texas Litter Control and the Homeless Pet Placement League (HPPL) are partnering for the third time to provide free spay and neuter services for cats.  On Sunday, March 9, 2014, the “Fix a Feline for Free” Day will take place at the Texas Litter Control clinic.  55 cats will be altered for people who are on public assistance.  Cat owners who are on disability, Social Security, unemployment, or food stamps will be eligible to participate.  These free services are underwritten by the Homeless Pet Placement League’s Philanthropy Fund.

Pet owners who qualify simply need to book online via the website www.TexasLitterControl.org or call the Texas Litter Control clinic (832) 510-7622 to book an appointment for March 9th.  Cats must weigh at least 3 pounds.  Tame cats need to be in a carrier and feral (wild) cats need to come in traps.  Intake will be at 7:00am (don’t forget the time change).  Pick up times will be assigned as cats are dropped off.  There is a limit of 2 cats per household and proof of public assistance or Social Security must be provided at check in.

“Kitten season is here!  If your unaltered cat is going outside, it is reproducing,” explains Deana Sellens, Executive Director of Texas Litter Control.  “Almost every female we are seeing right now is either in heat or already pregnant.  Our shelters just can’t absorb all of these accidental litters.  I get pleas from several shelters and they are already having to euthanize kittens because there are just not enough places for them.  If you have surrendered a litter to a shelter, they likely did not make it out.”

Citizens who cannot participate or do not own a cat can still help by volunteering at the clinic as well as at offsite events for both Texas Litter Control or HPPL.   For more information on these organizations and what you can do, visit www.texaslittercontrol.org  or www.hppl.org.

Texas Litter Control is a not for profit, low cost spay/neuter and wellness clinic for cats and dogs.  TLC is open Monday through Saturday by appointment for surgery and from 9am to 3pm Wednesday through Saturday for vaccinations and other wellness services.  The TLC clinic could not exist without the generosity of Petroleum Wholesale. Petroleum Wholesale provides the space for TLC clinic as a service to the community.  The clinic is located adjacent to Petroleum Wholesale’s Texaco station at the Rayford/Sawdust exit on the west side of Interstate 45 just south of the Woodlands at 150 Pruitt Road #H, Spring 77380.  Petroleum Wholesale has been supporting the rescue of dogs and other companion animals for nearly two decades.

HPPL, the Homeless Pet Placement League, is a local, non profit animal welfare organization that provides for the rehabilitation and permanent placement of stray and abandoned dogs and cats.  Working with the foster home concept, HPPL is able to help save animals that would not fit the criteria for shelter placement.
