Shot 300x224 Canine Influenza VaccineYou may have heard there is a new vaccine for Canine Influenza. Are you getting your dog vaccinated? We called Southwest Animal Clinic and asked about the vaccine. According to SWAC, the vaccine is harmless so there is no danger in getting the vaccine if you are not sure. There was an outbreak in San Antonio a few months ago a few cases have been reported in the Houston Area. The “dog flu” is just like people flu in that it can range in severity from a upper respiratory infection to life threatening symptoms. Older dogs or immune compromised are at a greater risk. SWAC also noted dogs that are around a lot of other dogs (dog parks, pet care facilities, etc.) are also more at risk. Check with your veterinarian for more information!
