Holistic Treatments for Cancer in Pets – Consider Your Options

Last week we looked at 5 simple things you can do to help prevent cancer in your pets.  If your pet has cancer, you need to look carefully at all of your options.  If your pet has undergone surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, some of the options below can help support the traditional methods of treating cancer.  If you have not made a decision yet, consider these holistic options and discuss them with your vet.  Know that sometimes with surgery the cancer comes back with a vengeance.  Sometimes chemo and radiation can weaken an animal’s immune system and they never quite recover.  Other times, traditional methods are very successful.  Cost and your pet’s age and condition can be factors you have to consider.  But since there are no guarantees with anything, it is best to explore different options.  Some times the best option is a combination of traditional and holistic methods.

If you want to go a holistic route, I recommend getting with a holistic vet to help you with your decisions.  They are going to be more knowledgeable about holistic options than a traditional vet.  For the Greater Houston Area, I highly recommend Gulf Coast Acupuncture Vet and Dr. Robin Robinett who are holistic focused and Dr. Rachel Addleman who practices both traditional and holistic methods.  If you are not near this area, you can go to the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association’s website to find a holistic vet.  Just realize not all holistic vets are a member of this association so you can do an internet search for a holistic vet in your area.

Look Closely at Your Pet’s Food & Water

  • It is imperative to offer the best diet possible that is right for your pet.  I’ve mentioned this over and over before but with a sick animal, the incorrect diet can weaken the immune system and your other efforts may not be as effective.  Click here for the blog on nutrition.  Some find that a low carb diet with moderate protein, moderate to high fat, and eliminating grains, dairy, and beef products from the diet are best.  Muscle testing is the best way to determine the proper diet.
  • Consider adding Omega 3 & Antioxidants. Omega 3 essential fatty acids have been shown to prevent the spread of cancer. Flax provides a good source of it for dogs and horses. Salmon oil is good for cats since it is a liquid. Antioxidants have anti-cancer properties and can slow the growth of some cancers. Vitamins A, C, D3, E, selenium, and bioflavoniods that contain polyphenols like EGCG (epigallocatechin-gallate) found in green tea are considered by many to be the most effective antioxidants.  It is extremely important you offer the proper amounts.  Muscle testing is the best way.
  • Offer water other than city water to your animal. Most city water contains a good amount of additives to it such as fluoride and chlorine.  Offer filtered, spring water, or good quality well water.  Read more about toxicity in water here.

Consider Holistic Treatment/Support Options

  • Stem Cell Enhancement – StemTech Healthsciences, Inc. has produced stem cell enhancers that help the stem cells reach the organs and tissues in need.  The two animal products are StemPets for small animals in tablet form and StemEquine for horses in granule form.
  • Essiac Tea – It is an incredible supplement that has helped people and animals that have cancer. If the cancer has not metastasized, it is possible the tea can heal. If the cancer has metastasized, it can help provide the best quality of life that is possible. The tea has helped with other health conditions but is most recognized as helping with cancer. The tea originated from a nurse, Rene Caisse (essiac is her name spelled backwards) in Canada. It is a special blend of burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, and turkey rhubarb. I have purchased the herbal blend from Herbal Healer and brewed it. It is better to brew the tea yourself rather than purchase it already made and bottled.
  • Transfer Factors – A number of pet owners and veterinarians are using 4Life’s Transfer Factor for animals with cancer. There are products for humans and those made for canines and equines. Many are using the Tri-Factor human product for dogs and cats. The canine and feline products are recommended for maintenance. For horses, there is the Performance & Show formula which combines minerals, vitamins, amino acids, probiotics, essential fatty acids, and the 4Life Transfer Factor Plus Advanced Formula.
  • Graviola – Some people are using graviola to help treat cancer in themselves or their pets. The product comes from a tree found in the Amazon rain forest.
  • Homeopathy – If your animal’s tumor has developed from a vaccine, Thuja may help. Hydrastis is a general treatment for cancer. If the tumor is hard, Baryta carb may help. Phytolacca decandra can possibly help with breast tumors.  Look for a vet that offers homeopathy to help you.  If the wrong remedy is used or a remedy overused, it has the possibility of aggravating the tumors.  Dr. Patricia Cooper and Dr. Dan Ahrens are in the greater Houston area.
  • Reiki –Reiki can help your animal to become more comfortable and relaxed.  In some cases, tumors have reduced in size or disappeared.  Reiki has the ability to help on different levels – emotional, physical, and/or spiritual.  Consider learning reiki so you can offer your pet the wonderful healing energy that is inside of you.
  • Custom Bach flower remedy – Bach flower essences can help your pet cope better with the cancer as they work on an emotional level.  A custom remedy is made especially for your animal from the 39 essences.
  • Acupuncture – Acupuncture is commonly used by holistic vets on pets with cancer.  Needles are not inserted in the tumor but rather in points to correct the imbalance in the body.
  • Color Therapy – Keep in mind that the color red “stimulates” so this means you do NOT want to put this color on or around your pet if they have cancer.  There is a reason the bull charges the red cape.  It is the energy the color gives off that affects your pet.  There are colors that can help support your pet but to find out what is the best color, you really need to muscle test.

As with any illness, it is best to consult with your vet on how best both of you can help your beloved pet.

Blessings to you and the animals you love,

Kim

I know the article mentions it, but transfer factor from 4 life research is absolutely amazing at helping pets get through these very critical periods in their lives. I know a bunch of pet owners that have used the stuff after their beloved pets underwent chemotherapy for some form of cancer of another. This stuff works.

    Good Morning,

My name is Ken McDonald and I am co-owner of KingKanine llc. We are a group of passionate dog owners who started the company with our invention and self manufactured KingKomb. With such an overwhelming response and testimonials from our customers, telling us how much they love the product and prefer it over the deshedding tools on the market. We have decided to grow the company ten-fold.

Their will be a number of Products that we hope to be launching this year alone, however today I would like to introduce PetexcelCBD. This is a super high quality, natural and holistic CBD. It is derived from the best industrial hemp available and is suspended in high omega3 krill oil ( for better absorption ) in preloaded oral syringes. We currently have four to choose from based on the weight of the pet. They range from 10mg,25,50 and 100mg. PetexcelCBD was carefully developed by our board certified Physician Dr.Joey Arena and Green Roads World compounding pharmacists/chemist. Current studies show that anxiety, epilepsy, arthritis, and inflammation reduce dramatically with the use of an industrial hemp based product.

Please feel free to research the effects of CBD and or go to our website or Facebook page, both at KingKanine or PetexcelCBD, also Green Roads World.

Thank You for your time and we look forward to hearing back from you.
