Montgomery County Animal Services (“MCAS”) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Touchstone Award from Best Friends Animal Society (“BFAS”) for the highest reduction in shelter killing (with an annual intake over 10,001) and becoming no-kill by BFAS standards.  Best Friends recognizes animal welfare partners across the country each year for outstanding work to create compassionate, animal-friendly communities through increased lifesaving and progress toward no-kill.   The award was based on national shelter data and work from calendar year 2019 (compared to 2018).

“We are honored to be given this award,” said Aaron Johnson, Director of Montgomery County Animal Services.  “For the past several years we have been on a transformational journey at MCAS.  This award recognizes all of the hard work put in by our staff, fosters, animal rescue groups and non-profits, and volunteers – including our daily dog walkers and offsite social media team. We would not be where we are today without the help we have received from all.  I am proud to be leading such an amazing organization.”
