Houston’s BARC Gets Animal Help Desk From Volunteers!

Animal Help Desk – Serving B.A.R.C.’s Animals

Launch Date: Monday, March 8, 2010

As you know, B.A.R.C. has entered a new era – a life-saving era, and we, the animal-loving community, need to do everything in our power to secure B.A.R.C.’s success in significantly increasing its live release rate and reducing its kill and disease rates.

It is in this spirit, that with BARC’s new leadership team’s full support, B.A.R.C. volunteers are launching an Animal Help Desk on Monday, March 8, 2010.

The Animal Help Desk will be physically located in B.A.R.C.’s lobby and will be physically manned by B.A.R.C. volunteers during B.A.R.C.’s normal hours of operation (Mon – Fri: 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m;  Sat & Sun:  Noon – 4:00 p.m.)

The purpose of the Animal Help Desk is to deter as many animal drop-offs as possible at B.A.R.C. by A) Assisting the public locate options/resources B) Empowering the public with information on BARC-approved Fosters and Rescue Groups and C) Educating the public with information on multiple resources, such as low-cost spay/neuter clinics, wellness clinics, TNR, offering guidance with pet behavior issues, etc.  In other words, offer the public options that most of them do not even realize exist.  Pet Retention efforts, such as these, are a proven major player in saving animal lives!

In doing so, we help B.A.R.C. save lives, educate the public on various issues and reduce workload on B.A.R.C. staff, which is already stretched.

Our City’s animals need YOU, B.A.R.C.’s volunteers, to help man the Animal Help Desk!  The shifts are as follows:

Sat. & Sun:  Noon – 4:00 p.m.  (On Saturdays and Sundays, we will need 2 – 3 people to man the desk due to high volume of visitors.)

Mon – Fri:  11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  (If you wish to work two shifts back to back, you’re very welcome to do so!)

On Mondays, we may need 2 people to man the desk, at least for the first hour of operation.

Again, our City’s animals need YOU!  They need positive and proactive-minded volunteers with a can-do attitude, who will leave no stone unturned to help pet owners either keep their pets or help them re-home their pets safely, bypassing B.A.R.C. impoundment.
