Pin Oak Charity Horse Show March 20th to 30th

The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, with Irish Day Farm as the prestigious 2013 title sponsor, opens its 68th annual show on March 20 and runs through March 30, 2013. Established in 1945 by J.S. Abercrombie, The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity and is one of the leading charity horse shows in the nation. The show typically attracts about 1,500 riders and 2,000 horses over the two-week period.

 

Painted horse 1The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show attracts thousands of spectators, horses and competitors each year. Children of all ages are welcome to attend the show when accompanied by an adult. Most show events begin at 8 a.m., and all but a few featured events require an admission fee.  Parking is also free.

The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show has raised almost $5 million for children’s charities since its inception in 1945. Proceeds from horse and rider entry fees, sponsorships, donations from supporters, and special event admission fees benefit Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston’s Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms, and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance.

In addition to Olympic level riders, approximately 750 junior competitors aged 18 and younger participate each year in a variety of events and classes on full-sized horses and Welsh ponies during the two-week show.  The youngest competitor on record at Pin Oak was 3 years old and showed in the “Lead Line” class led by an adult.

Most show events begin each day by or before 8 a.m. Central Daylight Savings Time. Admission is free for most Pin Oak Charity Horse Show competitions.  A donation of $10 per person for those 12 and older for the Saturday night events, March 23 and March 30, and the Grand Prix event on Saturday afternoon, March 23.
