During a time of the year when many shelters typically experience an uptick in the number of animals entering the shelter, Harris County Pets (HCP) is responding with a special offer for potential pet adopters. All dogs 40 pounds and over at its facility are available for adoption at a reduced fee of only $10 now through April 18. Adopters also receive a free bag of Old Mother Hubbard Natural Treats for their new furry companion while supplies last. The offer comes as HCP has recently seen an increase in the number of pets, especially dogs, entering the shelter. The recent uptick is primarily due to warmer weather (when animals are more active, and puppies and kittens are being born) and residents surrendering their pets as they return to work during the pandemic. “We have an abundance of larger dogs at our facility that interact well in our play groups and will make great family companions,” said Michael White, DVM, MS, director of Harris County Veterinary Public Health, which operates the Harris County Pets Resource Center. “It is not unusual for our facility to house an increasing animal population at this time of year. We encourage residents who are seriously considering adopting a pet to visit our new facility and take advantage of our adoption special.” All adoptions at HCP include spay/neuter, microchip with lifetime registration, a one-year Harris County pet license and age-appropriate vaccinations. Interested adopters can view pictures and profiles of the pets at www.CountyPets.com. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, Harris County Pets continues to schedule all visits and appointments by phone only. To make an appointment, call (981) 999-3191 in advance. Walk-ins are not accepted. HCP is located at 612 Canino Road in Houston.
