This is the first race for Mayor of Houston in which major candidates have presented policy papers on the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. Below are links to the policies from top candidates, Gene Locke and Annise Parker.
According to the City of Houston’s population numbers for 2009 and the American Veterinary Medical Association’s calculations, more than half of Houston’s households own pets. Pet owners, animal rescuers and welfare advocates are not a fringe group, but a large, highly motivated and informed constituency with the ability to influence and shape election results. Clearly, these candidates recognize the importance of addressing the crisis at BARC and Noah’s Ark PAC commends them both.
Noah’s Ark PAC screens and endorses candidates for public office, promotes the accountability of elected officials and raises awareness of animal welfare issues.
