Therapy Horse to visit Ronald McDonald House Today

When a real horse walks into a hospital it is always a magical experience. Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity. Teams of tiny therapy horses visit over 25,000 adults and children each year inside hospitals, Ronald McDonald Houses and with children who have experienced traumatic events. From the school children and first responders of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT to the tornado survivors of Moore, OK and child trafficking victims in Washington DC they bring their special love where it is needed most. The horses have visited children’s hospitals across the country.

Hero therapy horse Magic and friends will be visiting children and families at Ronald McDonald House Houston at 2pm Today. It is the only Houston visit on the tour.

Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses go through a two year training program including six months of hospital work. They have a one of a kind training partnership with UF Health Shands Rehab Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, an acute hospital for patients who have suffered strokes, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and burns.  The therapy horses work with occupational, speech and physical therapists as part of the treatment team. The horses learn to carefully work around hospital equipment, walk up and down stairs, ride in elevators, walk on different floor surfaces and work near sounds like ambulance sirens and hospital helicopters.
