According to Veterinary News Network, 2 cases of H1N1 in Ferrets and a single cat that tested positive for the virus have shown that human transmission of the “bug” to our pets is possible.
So far, a Ferret in Oregen tested postive as did a ferret in Nebraska who subsequently died. A 13 yr. old cat in Iowa who tested positive, has recovered without incident. To date, no dogs have tested positive.
Symptoms of the virus include coughing, lethargy and fever. Should your pet show any of these symptoms, visit your veterinarian right away. Treatment includes supportive care and antibiotics (to prevent secondary bacterial infection).
the H1N1 or Swine Flu virus did put our country in disarray for quite sometime, it is good to know that at least it did not cause so many deaths.
