Splish Splash I Was Takin’ A Bath – It wasn’t on Saturday Night but it was on Saturday afternoon, June 27 for a weekend of fun competition at Discovery Green. Dock Dogs rocked the park with their jumping, leaping and fetching. In the sport, water dogs compete in height and length of jump as they retrieve toys thrown in the water by trainers. Dock Dogs events have been a surprise hit for the Outdoor Channel, which televises matches.

Participants and their owners traveled from around the country to compete in amateur, semi-pro and pro events. Not surprisingly, Labs are the predominant breed in the competition. To learn more about this fun sport right here in Houston, visit www.houstondockdogs.com.

Discovery Green has been a popular destination with Houstonians and visitors to the city since its official opening on April 13, 2008. Located in downtown Houston across from the George R. Brown Convention Center, Discovery Green is 12 acres of urban green space including one-acre lake, children’s playground area, interactive water features, multi-use amphitheater stage and sloping lawn, small and large dog runs, and two restaurants, the Grove and Lake House operated by Schiller Del Grande Restaurant Group.

The Fall program season begins September 1 and will include the continuation of several of the popular activities offered in the spring as well as several new and diverse offerings for Houstonians and visitors of all ages. In November, the park will add another family-oriented holiday activity: outdoor ice skating on Kinder Lake.

All series programs are FREE and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Outdoor events can be affected by the weather. Performers, times, dates and other schedule changes may occur. For more information and program updates visit www.discoverygreen.com or call 713.400.7336.
