Today the Veterinary Public Health division of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services sent a note to area veterinarians to alert us to a major increase in the number of cases of distemper in Harris County. Over the past two weeks, 20 cases of distemper in dogs have been identified, and …it is believed that this current outbreak is being spread by raccoons. Feed your dogs indoors and keep your trash cans tightly sealed to discourage raccoons from coming into your yard. Make sure your dogs are current on their distemper immunizations!
