Spay/Houston will participate in Spay DayTM, an international campaign of The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, to promote the life-saving benefits of spay/neuter, when it hosts the Nickel Neuter at Spay/Houston, 412F N Sam Houston Pkwy E, on February 22, 2011.
Spay/Houston plans to neuter 100 male cats for a nickel each. Pet owners simply need to call or email to book an appointment. There is a limit of 2 male cats per household.
“Spay/neuter saves pets’ lives while lessening the burden on animal shelters and taxpayers,” said Deana Sellens, Executive Director. “We are inviting our citizens and local business owners to sponsor our Nickel Neuter. This program costs our charity approximately $2,500 for the day. It is such an important day!”
This year marks the seventeenth annual Spay DayTM. Since Spay Day’s inception in 1995, it is conservatively estimated that participants have altered more than 1,518,000 animals. Citizens who cannot participate financially or do not own a male cat can still help out. The clinic uses volunteers to watch animals in recovery and to perform basic cleaning duties. Spay/Houston can also use old towels, blankets, newspaper, unwanted cell phones, used ink jet and toner cartridges, recycled paper, and old computers (not monitors).
Spay/Houston is a not for profit, low cost spay/neuter and wellness clinic for cats, dogs, and rabbits located near Houston’s Intercontinental Airport. The clinic is owned and operated by Adopt A Cat, Inc., a no kill cat sanctuary and shelter. The clinic is open Monday through Saturday by appointment for surgery and from 10am to 1pm for wellness on Saturdays. Spay/Houston also runs a transportation service from Conroe to Greenspoint and back for pet owners who cannot make the drive.
