Depositphotos_26861961_originalTo help combat pet returns post adoption, the city of Pasadena, Texas is starting “Star Puppy” and “Pawsitive Basic” classes July 8, 2014 at the Pasadena Fairgrounds in Campbell Hall which is located across from their rodeo arena.  The city hopes to deter new pet parents from despairing over poorly behaved adoptees by providing a discount on training courses for recently adopted pets. And don’t worry about the summer heat, the city says the classes will held be indoors at an air conditioned facility.

This is a great opportunity for anyone to enroll dogs in basic obedience courses at a reasonable price through their park district, with a quality, experienced, and certified obedience instructor. Pamela Marie Nemec of Enchanted Paws will be instructing the classes.  Pamela has over 25 years experience working dogs, and shows her own American Staffordshire Terriers in conformation, agility, obedience, rally, and coursing.

Pamela was certified by Triple Crown Academy in Hutto, Texas – an AKC CGC Evaluator, and a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals. Pamela is a wonderful ambassador, promoting dogs in a positive way.  She participates in various local functions, ranging from the “Krewe of Barkus Parade” on Galveston Island to assisting with “The Cat In the Hat” at the Reliant Dog Show.  One of her American Staffordshire Terriers was pictured last year in our magazine, along with “The Cat In The Hat” in front of the Pet Talk Booth at the Dog Show.

The City of Pasadena and Enchanted Paws is offering 10% to qualified owners and their dogs that have adopted or rescued a dog (with proof).  Kirby Cardenas, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Pasadena, started this program with Pamela.  You do NOT need to live in the City of Pasadena to take the classes.

No one wants to see dogs end up back or at a shelter! With a little bit of training, you can build a lasting foundation for a great relationship between owner and dog.
