Houston’s Top Pet Resorts Celebrate National Dog Week by Selling Special Edition SNAP Pupcakes from Barker Street Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique

Rover Oaks, Urban Tails and ABC Pet Resorts are joining forces to present Pupcakes with a Purpose, a week-long fundraising event that will benefit Houston’s Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP).  Throughout the week of September 20-25, the three respected resorts will be selling specially made SNAP Pupcakes, canine-friendly cupcakes, to raise much-needed funds to help SNAP provide more free and low-cost services to the community.  The event falls during National Dog Week and is a perfect way to celebrate the role of dogs in our lives while also benefitting an extremely worthy cause.

For Houston area dogs, raising money never tasted so good thanks to the official SNAP Pupcake created by Barker Street Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique, a local retailer that specializes in dog-friendly desserts and treats.  The limited edition flavor, made with Strawberry, Nuts And Pineapple, will be available for sale at Rover Oaks Pet Resort in Houston and Katy, Urban Tails Pet Resort in Midtown, ABC Pet Resort and Spa in North Houston, Barker Street Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique in the Woodlands and at the SNAP Spay-Neuter and Wellness Clinic located near Houston’s Heights.  Large Pupcakes will be sold for $5 and petite Pupcakes for $2, with all proceeds benefitting SNAP.

Pupcakes with a Purpose marks the first time the three upscale pet resorts have partnered together to benefit charity.  “We are really excited about partnering to raise funds for SNAP, while celebrating National Dog Week,” said Steve Smith, owner of Rover Oaks Pet Resort.  “We encounter many animals in need of homes through our work in the community.  By assisting SNAP we are helping to stop the cycle of animal overpopulation, providing more adoption opportunities for the animals currently in shelters or foster care.

SNAP is an organization that benefits everyone in Houston’s animal community,” said Susan Briggs, owner of Urban Tails Pet Resort.  “We are thrilled to partner with Rover Oaks and ABC Pet Resorts to benefit such a great cause and to educate Houstonians on the importance of spaying a neutering their pets.”

“ABC Pet Resort is passionate about making a difference in the community in which we work and live,” said Suzanne Locker, owner of ABC Pet Resort.  “This collaboration not only benefits a great organization, it is also a great way to celebrate National Dog Week with your dog, giving them a treat they are sure to love.”

SNAP has provided more than 350,000 free and low-cost sterilizations since their inception in 1993, preventing the birth of countless unwanted animals that would likely have ended up in shelters or roaming the streets.  Through their unique mobile clinic, SNAP goes directly into economically disadvantaged areas to provide free services for residents on government assistance that want to best provide for their animal, but lack the funds.

“We are so grateful to Rover Oaks, Urban Tails and ABC Pet Resorts for choosing to raise money, and awareness for SNAP,” said Laura Welch, development director for SNAP.  “We are committed to providing as many free and low-cost procedures as we can throughout the community.  Every dog and cat SNAP sterilizes helps prevent animals from being born unwanted and unloved.  Unique events like Pupcakes with a Purpose enable us to provide additional procedures to those in the community that need it the most,” she added.

About SNAP:

SNAP, the recipient of the 2009 Pinnacle Award from the Better Business Bureau, is a 501(c)(3) organization that operates in Houston, and San Antonio, Texas, with a mission to prevent the suffering and death of cats and dogs due to overpopulation, especially in low-income areas. SNAP envisions a world without homeless dogs and cats. Both Houston and San Antonio have expressed the desire to become “no kill” cities in the near future. SNAP recognizes that sterilization programs, which by definition reduce the number of animals that could possibly be born, are essential to these communities’ reaching that desired status. SNAP will focus on helping these cities reach their goal by designing, delivering, promoting, and advancing community-based animal sterilization services.
